An Appeal….Help! My Fridge is Full of Film!!
Here at Sci-Fi Circus we are pretty blessed to have help from some pretty cool people and if we can, we like to help them back.
First on the Roll Call is: Nic Wassell (Strange Day Films)
Nic has taken some great shots of some of our gigs: The Comedy, The Enterprise and The Hope & Anchor. He is also responsible for our Video from The Hope & Anchor gig. When he isn’t making us look good he is busy making good films. Check some of his stuff out on Vimeo.
At the moment Nic has a campaign over at IndieGoGo for help with the Post Production of his 16mm Film “Dry“.
The Film is inspired by the work of Tsai Ming Liang and “is a short film about love lost and the hole it leaves behind.” Shot on Super 16mm, not because of any crazy “film should only be shot on film and poo-poo to digital” ideals. But because, as some of us musicians would love the chance to record some stuff on tape, some film makers hope for the chance of filming on film. Nic and his crew had the opportunity to do so, using vintage anamorphic lenses and the Super 16mm film. The only problem is that they only have a low quality scan that they use for editing and now need to raise money for the Digital Intermediate and Sound Mix.
It’s a shame that the beauty of celluloid only appears to be available for those swinging the big bucks. While I understand that good film making isn’t reliant on this media type, it would be nice to see some being shown in such a format. Good films made by guys & girls who just don’t have the cash. This is one of the many purposes of the IndieGoGo Site and in particular, the reason behind Nic’s campaign.
“IF IT’S SO GOOD WHY HAVEN’T YOU GIVEN ANY MONEY?”
This is true, we haven’t given Nic any cash. I would like to say yet, but it could end up a lie. The truth is we have just blown all our money on getting our recording equipment and still need to get more mic stands and cables. Hopefully we are redeeming ourselves by spreading the word so that someone who has a tower of cash and a love of film sees this and helps the campaign. If this is you, or if not, but you still want to help, then click the “Dry” link and see what you can do.
Take it easy 🙂
